Club Competition Rules
All entrants must be a financial member of the Maryborough Camera Club Inc. to enter into the Club’s monthly competitions, End of Year competitions and Portfolio competition.
New members will be allocated to either A or B Grade depending on their expertise upon joining the Club. There will be no separate section for Junior members. Junior members may enter all competitions and compete as B Grade.
B Grade members will be obliged to move to A Grade upon accumulating the highest points scored for the current year and at the discretion of the Committee.
Monthly Competition
All entries must:
not have been used in a previous monthly competition; and
be the work of the author.
Projected Images
There will be 4 sections each month –
A Grade - Open Subject
- Set Subject
B Grade - Open Subject
- Set Subject
A Grade section will be open to all A Grade members
B Grade section will be open to all B Grade members
Each member is entitled to enter up to 3 images/slides per section
Each section be awarded 1st to 3rd place
Points will be allocated to images as follows:-
1st 4 points
2nd 3 points
3rd 2 points
1 point will be allocated for each image entered by an entrant
Entries for projected images in slide format are to be handed to the Club’s recorder on the evening of the competition meeting with a completed entry form.
Entries for projected images in digital format are to be emailed to the Club’s recorder and are to reach the recorder no later than 12noon on the Saturday immediately prior to the competition meeting.
A completed entry form is to be handed to the Club’s recorder on the evening of the competition meeting.
Digital images are to be as follows:-
Saved in a JPEG format
Each image is to be a maximum width of 1024 pixels and a maximum height of 768 pixels and a total file size not to exceed 300kb
The file name of each image is to contain the following information:-
Grade (A – A Grade or B – B Grade)
Section (O -Open or S – Set), month/year, title of image, author’s initials
For example - AO-0212-Red Balloons-KMS
Please ensure the name of the image is no more than 15 characters long
Prints
There will be 6 sections each month:-
SMALL UP TO 8” X 6” IN SIZE
(2 Sections) Both Sections are open to B Grade members only
Set Subject
Open Subject
COLOUR LARGER THAN 8” X 6” AND UPWARDS
(2 Sections)
A Grade
B Grade
Extra point is allocated if print content matches monthly set subject
MONOCHROME LARGER THAN 8” X 6” AND UPWARDS
(2 Sections)
A Grade
B Grade
Extra point is allocated if print content matches monthly set subject
Each member is entitled to enter up to 3 prints per eligible section
Entries are to be handed to the Club’s recorder on the evening of the competition meeting with a completed entry form for each section entered.
Prints are to be marked on the back with the following information:-
Author
Title of Print
Section being entered
Member’s Grading, eg A or B
Each section will be awarded 1st to 3rd place (dependent on number of entries)
Points will be allocated to images as follows:-
1st 4 points
2nd 3 points
3rd 2 points
1 point will be allocated for each image entered by an entrant
End of Year Competition
The following categories will be awarded as part of the End of Year Competition to be judged and announced at the December competition meeting:-
A Grade Projected Image of the Year
B Grade Projected Image of the Year
A Grade Print of the Year
B Grade Print of the Year
Candid on an Outing (image must have been taken since the previous year’s AGM and may be a print or digital image)
All members will be able to select and enter 3 images/prints from the images/prints they have entered into the Club’s monthly competitions with the exception of the “Candid on an Outing”.
Throughout the year’s monthly competitions, points awarded will accumulate towards the following categories and winners announced at the December competition meeting:-
Most Points Awarded (Prints) – A Grade
Most Points Awarded (Prints) – B Grade
Most Points Awarded (Projected Images) – A Grade
Most Points Awarded (Projected Images) – B Grade
Overall Points Awarded – A Grade
Overall Points Awarded – B Grade
Portfolio
There will be 2 graded competitions – A Grade and B Grade
Portfolio entries must have been taken since the previous year’s AGM (November meeting)
Projected images, slides or prints used in the Monthly competitions are also eligible for entry in the Portfolio competition
Members will be provided with a list of 6 subjects for consideration in their portfolio. Of these six subjects, members are able to choose any 4 of these subjects to present as their portfolio.
Alternatively, you may submit a collection of four images that explore or show four different aspects of the one subject. Ideally these images will be of different items that are connected in some way. For example, your portfolio may be 4 close-up images of similar parts of 4 different vintage cars. You must use one of the subjects provided from the 6 subjects listed.
A member’s portfolio is to consist of all projected images, all slides or all prints – no combinations of projected images, slides and prints will be accepted. Print portfolios may consist of different print sizes if desired. It is encouraged that all portfolios entered as a selection of prints be suitably mounted on card.
Portfolio entries are to be handed in at the November competition meeting to allow time for judging. Winners will be announced at the December competition meeting.
